Privacy Policy
The short version
- Unicorn Hustle is for players aged 13 and up. We block anyone younger.
- We collect what we need to run the game: your sign-in details, date of birth, country, language and game progress.
- Your date of birth is kept private. Other players never see your age or your email.
- We don't sell your data, and there are no ads in the game today.
- You can ask us to show, correct or delete your data at any time: hi@unicornhustle.xyz.
1. Who we are
Unicorn Hustle is a free online game run by LayGen ("we", "us"). This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the game and the website at unicornhustle.xyz, why we collect it and the choices you have. LayGen is the controller of your personal information.
If anything here is unclear, email us at hi@unicornhustle.xyz.
2. Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old to play. When you sign up we ask for your date of birth. Signing in with Google or an email link may create an authentication record before this check. If the date you enter shows you are under 13, we block onboarding and do not save that date or create a game profile. We queue the authentication account for deletion and store a salted hash of the lowercased email address to prevent repeat registration with that address. We also store a neutral restriction marker in your browser. See How long we keep it and Cookies and local storage.
In some countries, players under 16 or 18 need a parent or guardian's permission to use online services. If that applies to you, please only play with their permission. See Teens and parents.
3. What we collect
| Information | What it includes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account details | Your name and email address from Google sign-in or the email you use for a sign-in link. | To create your account and let you sign in on any device. |
| Date of birth | The date you enter at sign-up. | To check you are 13 or older and place you in an age group (13–15, 16–17 or 18+). It is stored separately from your profile and is never shown to other players. |
| Country and language | The country and language you choose. | To show prices in your currency, show the game in your language and suggest Hubs near you. |
| Starting look (optional) | Whether you chose "girl", "boy" or skipped. | Only to pick your character's first outfit. You can change your look at any time. |
| Game data | Your character, room, stock, sales, money in the game, levels, trophies and settings. | To save your progress and run the game. |
| Social activity | Hubs you join or found, Hub chat messages, guestbook notes, likes, follows, reports and blocks. | To run the social features and keep players safe. |
| Device and technical data | IP address, browser and device type, time zone, error reports and basic usage events. | To keep the game working, prevent cheating and abuse, and fix problems. |
| Messages to us | Anything you send to our support email. | To answer you. |
We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or payment card details. The live streams in the game are simulated: we never record you.
4. How we use your information
- To run the game, save your progress and let you play on more than one device.
- To match you only with players in your own age group.
- To keep the game safe: we automatically filter Hub chat, review reports, and remove content or accounts that break our rules.
- To stop cheating and protect the game's economy, for example by checking that each live session was played fairly.
- To understand how the game is used, in aggregate, so we can fix bugs and improve it.
- To send you messages about your account, such as sign-in links and important changes to these policies. We don't send marketing emails unless you choose to receive them.
We don't sell personal information. We don't show ads in the game today. If we ever add ads, we will not show personalised ads to players under 18, and we will update this policy before we start.
5. Our legal bases
Where data protection laws such as the GDPR or Ghana's Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) require a legal basis, we rely on:
- Our agreement with you (the Terms of Service) to provide the game and your account.
- Legitimate interests to keep the game safe, prevent cheating and abuse, and improve the game. We weigh these against your rights, taking extra care because many players are teenagers.
- Consent where the law requires it, including parental consent for younger players in some countries. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legal obligations, for example when we must keep records or respond to lawful requests.
6. What other players can see
Other players can see your display name, character, room, level, followers, country, your Hub and badge, and what you post in Hub chat or guestbooks. They can never see your email, date of birth, age or age group. Players in other age groups can't find you, visit your room or chat with you.
7. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with:
- Service providers that run parts of the game for us under contract, such as cloud hosting and database services (Supabase), sign-in (Google), email delivery and error monitoring. They may only use your data to provide their service to us.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or when we believe in good faith that someone's safety is at serious risk.
- A new owner, if LayGen or the game is sold or merged. This policy would continue to protect your information, and we would tell you first.
8. Where your information is stored
Our servers may be in a different country from yours, for example in Canada or the European Union. When we transfer personal information across borders, we use providers that protect it to the standards required by applicable law, including standard contractual clauses where needed.
9. How long we keep it
- Account and game data: for as long as your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it within 30 days. Copies in backups are removed within a further 90 days.
- Hub chat messages: up to 12 months, unless they are part of a report.
- Safety reports and enforcement records: up to 2 years, so we can deal with repeat abuse. Blocked-signup hashes are handled separately as described below.
- Technical logs: up to 90 days.
- Longer only if the law requires it or we need it for a legal claim.
Blocked signups: a scheduled server job runs each minute to attempt permanent deletion of queued authentication accounts and their linked account records. The queue holds the authentication user ID until deletion succeeds. Failed attempts stay queued for retry, so deletion is not guaranteed within one minute. After successful deletion, the live authentication and account records no longer retain the raw email address or name, and the queued user ID is removed.
We retain the salted SHA-256 hash of the lowercased email address for as long as it is needed to prevent repeat registration; it currently has no automatic expiry. This hash is pseudonymous personal information, not anonymous data. It allows the server to recognize the same email without retaining the raw address in the blocked-signup record. We review its continued necessity and remove it when it is no longer needed. You can contact us about this record at hi@unicornhustle.xyz.
Deleting live records does not immediately purge copies in backups or security and operational logs. Those copies follow the retention periods above, subject to the stated legal exceptions.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- show you the personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct information that is wrong;
- delete your account and personal information;
- stop or limit some uses of your information, or object to them;
- withdraw consent you have given.
Email hi@unicornhustle.xyz from the address linked to your account. We reply within 30 days and may need to check it's really you first. You can also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Data Protection Commission in Ghana or the supervisory authority where you live in the EU or UK.
11. Teens and parents
We designed Unicorn Hustle for teenagers, so we limit what we collect and what players can see of each other:
- Players are only matched with others in their age group.
- There are no private one-to-one messages. Outside Hub chat, players use preset phrases and stickers.
- Hub chat blocks links, phone numbers, emails and social media handles.
- Ages and birthdays are never shown to other players.
Parents and guardians can contact us at hi@unicornhustle.xyz to ask what information we hold about their teen, or to have it corrected or deleted. We will verify the request before acting on it.
12. Cookies and local storage
We use only the cookies and browser storage needed to keep you signed in, remember your settings (such as language and theme), save game progress on your device before it syncs, and apply eligibility restrictions. When onboarding is blocked, a neutral browser marker helps prevent another attempt on that device; the marker contains no email, date of birth or display name. If persistent browser storage is unavailable, the restriction is kept in memory for the current page session. The server's blocked-signup hash check also applies independently of this marker. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
13. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and private storage for sensitive data such as your date of birth. Only the systems and staff who need it can access it. No online service is perfectly secure, so please keep your sign-in details private. If a security incident affects your personal information, we will tell you and the authorities when the law requires it.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the game grows. We will post the new version here with a new date. If the changes are important, we will tell you in the game or by email before they take effect.
